C. Is a person disqualified from purchasing ammunition if they
are disqualified from purchasing firearms?
Yes. Under federal law 18 U.S.C. Section 922(g), it is unlawful
for a person who is disqualified from purchasing or possessing
firearms to purchase ammunition if the ammunition has moved in
interstate commerce. Since nearly all ammunition or ammunition
components move through interstate commerce in one form or
another, this disqualification includes essentially all ammunition.
Under Texas law, there is no such disqualification.
D. Can a person purchase ammunition that is labeled “law
enforcement use only”?
Yes. Although some handgun ammunition is sold with the label
“law enforcement use,” such a label has no legal meaning and is
only reflective of a company policy or a marketing strategy.
