PRACTICAL LEGAL TIP
222 | CHAPTER TEN
If you use your firearm for defensive
purposes, the first number you should
call is 911. But keep your call brief:
you only need to tell the operator that
you have been the victim of a crime,
where you are located, and some
identifying information. After that, hang
up! You are not required to remain on
the line, and doing so could cause you
problems later. Remember, all 911
calls are recorded, and operators are
trained to gather as much information
as possible. No matter how justified you
are in your use of a firearm, something
you say on a 911 call may become a
real headache later at trial. —Edwin
