J. Civil commitment facilities
WEAPONS PROHIBITED AT CIVIL COMMITMENT FACILITIES
TEX. PENAL CODE § 46.03(a)(10)
(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm,
location-restricted knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in
Section 46.05(a):
(10) on the premises of a civil commitment facility; ...
A civil commitment facility houses people who have been found to
be sexually violent predators under Texas Health and Safety Code
Chapter 841. These are people who have served a prison sentence,
but a court has found they are a continued danger to society.
Deadly weapons are prohibited in correctional facilities and civil
commitment facilities under Texas Penal Code Section 38.11, and
people are specially prohibited from bringing their handguns into
these facilities by Texas Penal Code Section 46.03(a)(10).
K. Mental hospitals
WEAPONS PROHIBITED AT MENTAL HOSPITALS
TEX. PENAL CODE § 46.03(a)(12)
(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm,
location-restricted knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in
Section 46.05(a):
(12) on the premises of a mental hospital, as defined by
Section 571.003, Health and Safety Code, unless the
person has written authorization of the mental hospital
administration; ...
