Weapons are prohibited at mental hospitals. Section 571.003 of the
Health and Safety Code defines “mental hospital” as “a hospital:
(A) operated primarily to provide inpatient care and treatment for
persons with mental illness; or (B) operated by a federal agency
that is equipped to provide inpatient care and treatment for persons
with mental illness.”

241, Health and Safety Code, or on the premises of a
nursing facility licensed under Chapter 242, Health and
Safety Code, unless the person has written authorization
of the hospital or nursing facility administration, as
