1. When do ordinary items become clubs?
The legal definition of a club includes any instrument “adapted for
the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking
the person with the instrument.” See Tex. Penal Code § 46.01(1).
This means that many ordinary items that a person may find in their
home or vehicle may be considered to be a club if the item has been
adapted to serve a different purpose than originally intended.
For instance, a baseball bat is designed to be used for playing
baseball. However, if a person takes a baseball bat and hammers
a few nails through the end of the bat, the baseball bat has been
adapted to become a mace.

2. Specific exceptions to the law prohibiting the carrying of a club
Texas Penal Code Section 46.15 also contains a number of
exceptions for persons who, as a result of their employment,
need to carry a club in a prohibited place under Texas Penal Code
Section 46.03.
