PREFACE
U.S. & Texas LawShield would like to thank its members and
others who made previous editions of Texas Gun Law: Armed And
Educated an overwhelming success. As many Texans know, the
87th Texas Legislature created, amended, and repealed several laws
that impact the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. In order
to keep Texans up to date on the law, U.S. & Texas LawShield has
prepared this revised 5th Edition of Texas Gun Law: Armed And
Educated.
As lawyers with years of representing law-abiding gun owners in
cases all over the State of Texas, we have seen how well-intended
folks exercising their rights get mixed up in the legal system because
they simply didn’t understand the law. Through this revised edition,
we are continuing with our commitment to produce the best onevolume resource that provides any gun owner with a base level of
knowledge about laws that they need to know.
The law can be complicated, overlapping, hard to understand, and
in some cases, completely arbitrary to the point of confusion. Laws
are often written by lawyers for lawyers or are the result of political
compromises generating confusing laws that the courts are left to
interpret. After years of legal work in the arena of firearms law,
we found there did not exist a resource that explained gun law
in a manner that was easy for everyone to understand—because
understanding the law goes far beyond just reading statutes or
regulations. If you do not know either the process by which the
law is being administered or how the courts are interpreting the
meaning of the law, then you don’t understand the full legal story.
